Website security issues with CVS website

CVS Corp, which has more than 4500 stores across the United States has been forced to shut down its website temporarily. It had to take this step after it discovered that the transaction list, which it sent to its customers, by email was compromising the client's personal information. CVS used a program known as ExtraCare that enabled its customers to apportion their medical spendings in the best possible manner. The customers accessed the website in order to check the history of their purchases. They had to provide three identifying information pieces, their ID number, their zip code, and the first three letters of their last name. The tool was found to be easy to crack into when it was tested by CASPIAN (Consumers against supermarkets invasion and numbering). The information of the account holders is very private and includes expenses for family planning and medical testing. The card number is easily available, its on the card as well on the receipt. The first three letters of an individual's name too can be cracked or guessed easily. Cioinsight reports:

After CASPIAN's efforts received media coverage, CVS took down its ExtraCare Web site and said in a statement that it is "in the process of creating additional security hurdles for accessing this purchase information."
